Museum Completion Guide: All Wings, Donation Strategy, and Rewards

Updated 2026-08-27 · 6 min read · Guide Team

A completionist's roadmap for Mistria's museum: how donating works, all four wings and their 80 sets, what to donate versus sell, the skill-gated sets that block 100%, and every type of reward you earn along the way.

Museum Basics: Unlocking and Donating

On the morning of Spring 2, Errol mails you the story quest 'Museum Donations Wanted'. Meet him at the museum in The Narrows (west of Mistria, north of your farm) to unlock donations and pocket 100 tesserae. Errol runs the place as curator, with Eiland from the Historical Society close behind the story.

Donating happens at the Collection Box on the counter inside the lobby: interact with it, drop in any eligible items, and they are permanently registered. The donation screen shows your progress per set and per wing, which makes it your master checklist. Four item categories are accepted - fish, insects, flora, and archaeological finds - and each set needs one of each listed item. Donations are permanent and items are not returned, which is exactly why the strategy section below matters.

The Four Wings at a Glance

As of v0.15 the museum holds 80 sets and 399 total items. Every set takes 5 items, with one exception: the Legendary Fish set takes only 4. The wings break down like this:

WingSetsWhat's inside
Fish22Multi-season plus season x water-type sets (river/pond/ocean), five mine-biome sets, Deep Woods, Fish Bait, Fish Trap, Legendary
Archaeology22Regional relic sets (Aldarian, Caldosian, Alda, Ancient, Prehistoric), Oopart, Aquatic, Sunken, Buried, one per mine biome, Dragon, Ritual, Mist, Vintage Farm Tools, Metals and Gems of Mistria, Deep Woods, Fish Trap, Dig Site
Insects19Multi-season and four seasonal sets, Bee, Grass, Beach, Rare, Legendary, Bug Pheromone, Deep Woods, five mine-biome sets
Flora17Seasonal flower and forage sets (e.g. Spring Flowers) plus related plant sets

One honest caveat: Fields of Mistria is in Early Access, and not every listed item is obtainable yet. Sets have been added in nearly every major patch (v0.12 through v0.15 all expanded the museum), so treat a stuck set as 'not yet in the game' before assuming you missed something.

Donation Strategy: What to Keep, What to Give

The golden rule: the first of every donatable item goes to the museum; only duplicates are yours to sell, cook, or gift. Keep a chest near your door as a holding pen so nothing gets shipped by reflex. A few categories deserve special care:

  • Legendary fish are single-catch per save. Cherry, Lightning, Leaf, and Snow Fish each spawn once - donating them is the only sane choice since their sell price and gift value are both poor.
  • Perfect ores and gems: the Metals of Mistria and Gems of Mistria sets need one perfect variant of all five ores and all five gems. Stash one of each before you smelt or sell anything; the Perfect Pick mining perk (tier 5) raises drop rates if you are still hunting late.
  • Skill-gated sets: whole sets sit behind perks - Aquatic artifacts need the Aquatic Antiquities fishing perk, Sunken artifacts need Sunken Secrets (diving), Oopart dig spots need Well Placed, Ritual artifacts need Lost to History (mining tier 4) and its Ritual Chambers, Mist artifacts need Mist Sight, and Vintage Farm Tools need Former Farmers. Unlock these as you naturally level rather than rushing them.
  • Bait and trap sets: the Fish Bait, Fish Trap, and Bug Pheromone sets all flow from Terrariums (v0.15). Build them early; output is the bottleneck.

Museum Rewards: What You Get Back

Donating is not charity. Each completed set pays out, and the reward you receive is determined by how many sets you have finished in that wing overall, not by which specific set you turned in - so completing easy seasonal sets moves you toward the same milestones as finishing a rare one.

The reward pool includes tesserae and renown with donations and set completions, unique cosmetics and clothing, treasure boxes in escalating rarities (which open into random mystery items), and - the sleeper value - exclusive recipes. Some cooking recipes can only be learned by donating specific items, and crafting/furniture recipes are tied to wing milestones, such as the Bumblebee Plushie recipe at 18 completed Insects sets. None of these are sold anywhere, so completionists literally cannot buy their way around the museum.

Do not overlook the renown: museum progress feeds straight into Town Rank, which is the same track that reopens the Mines at rank 10 and drives the town restoration storyline. A steady donation habit is quietly one of the fastest ways to advance the main game.

Completion Roadmap and Common Roadblocks

A realistic completion arc looks like this. Year 1 spring-fall: donate every new fish, bug, and flower as seasons rotate, and dig up every artifact spot you pass. Once the Mines open: each new biome adds a fish set, an insect set, and an artifact set - sweep floors with rod and net after your ore run. Winter: lean on snow- and blizzard-locked species and the mine biomes, which ignore seasons entirely. Year 2+: mop up weather-locked stragglers, legendary fish, perfect ores and gems, and the skill-gated artifact sets.

The blockers everyone hits, and their fixes:

  • Weather-locked catches (rain-only Walleye, storm-only Lightning Dragonfly, blizzard-only Snowball Beetle and Snow Fish): check the forecast and dedicate bad-weather days to hunting.
  • Giant-shadow rare fish: stamina-gated more than luck-gated; bring food and commit to a full day at the right water type.
  • Legendary fish not appearing: you need the Legendary fishing perk (level 30, 80 essence) before they can spawn at all.
  • Ritual set stalled: Ritual Chambers require the Lost to History perk (mining level 45) and spawn at most one per day, never in the Upper Mines.
  • Missing perfect ores/gems: pure RNG - mine cracked rocks and nodes in the right biome, and grab Perfect Pick at level 60 to tilt the odds.

Make it a ritual to review the Collection Box interface at every season change: sort by incomplete sets, note what the missing slots are, and let that list - not habit - decide your next day's plan.

💡 Pro Tip

Rewards scale with per-wing set counts, not with which sets you finish - so blitz the cheap seasonal fish, bug, and flower sets first. The milestones they unlock (treasure boxes, exclusive recipes) arrive weeks earlier than if you obsess over one hard set at a time.
